“Ant-Man and The Wasp” Director Reveals Hope Van Dyne’s Struggle

Ant-Man and the Wasp is due out in roughly two months, so let’s steal some time from Avengers: Infinity War posts to talk about the upcoming film. We know that Ant-Man and the Wasp will deal with the fallout from Captain America: Civil War where Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) became a fugitive as he was on Team Cap. We also know that Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) will finally suit up as the Wasp who is Ant-Man’s partner. We also know that Ghost will be the villain and the Quantum Realm will be explored in more detail in this film. What struggle will Hope have in the film though? Turns out she has a case of I-don’t-need-a-partner-itis.

We saw this a little in Ant-Man. She was training to take over for her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) before he decided to hand the shrinking suit to Scott. She was resentful for a good part of the movie, going on about how she should be the one in the suit and she should be the hero. It sounds like once she suits up as Wasp, she may start seeing no point in teaming up with Scott. CinemaBlend spoke with director Peyton Reed who said this:

“Well, the movie is absolutely about Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, and Hope becoming Wasp… and their relationship is a little fractured… I think for Hope particularly, the question is out there: ‘Do I need this guy in my life? I’m a fully formed hero in my own right, do I need a partner?’ That was really a fun kind of premise to start from.”

It’s not a terribly original story, but it’s understandable since we’ve seen the character deal with similar feelings before. It’s also an interesting twist since the “new” hero is usually not the one not wanting a partner. I’m excited to see this film!

Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters July 6, 2018.

Evangeline Reveals Wasp’s Arc In “Ant-Man & the Wasp”

Last month, Evangeline spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming film “Ant-Man and The Wasp” and revealed her character’s arc. Read below what he said. Also the site (EW) published two new exclusive photos, which you can see below.

Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne (a.k.a. the Wasp) may share the power of miniaturization with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (a.k.a. Ant-Man) in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Wasp is, after all, the first female superhero to appear in the title of a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. “It means a lot to me,” says Lilly. “If I’m honest with myself, I feel a lot of pressure to make sure that it is everything that the world wants it to be.”

The film concerns the quest by van Dyne, Lang, and scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to rescue Janet van Dyne — that’s Hope’s mother and Hank’s wife — from the Quantum Realm, an alternate dimension into which she disappeared decades previously. “Scott entered the Quantum Realm in the first film and came back, which is something they thought was impossible,” says Lilly. “The question has arisen, ‘Can Janet come back?’ So the entire film, my character is hell-bent on finding a way to get into the Quantum Realm and bring her back.”
