The actress and activist’s latest performance as Marvel Comic’s kickass superhero Hope Van Dyne in this month’s anticipated movie, The Ant Man and The Wasp proves that women can do more than deliver action sequences and support their male counterparts. Azza Arif flies down to LA to uncover Evangeline’s personal experience of filming Ant Man and The Wasp, her excitement over joining the acclaimed Avengers super squad in its 4th sequel (debuting in 2019), and her undying love for writing.

Let’s face it: in the super fantastic world of cinematic superheroes to date, a woman has never truly taken the lead in a Marvel movie, aside from taking on supporting roles. The comic giant’s output when it comes to movies has been focused largely on developing its male-centric franchises, even in hits like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. This month’s debut of Marvel’s latest movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp, changes all that, placing the female protagonist right in the title.

As the sequel to the Ant-Man, the movie dwells into the development of Evangeline Lilly’s character, Hope Van Dyne, who transforms into the Wasp, using a combination of energy blasts and shrinking ability to take down her enemies in a distinct bodysuit. The off-screen Wasp showed up at the studio in something far more casual than her on-screen character; she waltzed in wearing a pinstripe jacket over a plain white tee and loose blue pants. “Show me the outfits!” she exclaimed a little while after she arrived on set, her doe eyes gleamed with excitement. Although she had just flown down from Hawaii where she lives with her family when she isn’t filming, she looked downright luminous and energetic. She scanned through the racks of looks flown in from around the globe just for the shoot, pulling out what she likes and holding them against her toned superhero body. “I have never worn anything as sheer as this dress,” she told me, as she held out a beautiful Dior gown with luxurious embroidery.

‘Ant-Man’s’ Evangeline Lilly talks The Wasp and stepping up on movie sets

The “Ant-Man” sequel may be about tiny superheroes, but the film is making a big statement about female empowerment by featuring Evangeline Lilly’s The Wasp not only in the title but giving her a larger stake in Marvel’s sprawling movie franchise.

“Ant-Man and The Wasp,” the 20th film in the Marvel cinematic universe that includes “Black Panther,” ″Iron Man” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” is the first one in the series to include a female character in a title role. The prominence of The Wasp, a character who has major roles in the “Ant-Man” and “Avengers” comic books, comes after years of fan anticipation for a female Marvel superhero to get her own film.

“I worked really closely with Evangeline, and we talked about, ‘Now we’re going to have a chance to make a fully formed hero, and we want her to be as dimensional as possible. And we don’t want her to be a hero who is always glammed up with hair and makeup. We wanted her to be a little sweaty. And we want her, like, when that helmet comes off, her hair is in a ponytail, because that’s the practical thing you would do,’” Reed said.

“I wanted her to have a signature style that little girls, like I was when I was a feminine, girly little girl, would be able to fall in love with,” the actress says of her character, the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get equal billing with a man.

The Wasp Battles Ghost in New “Ant-Man and the Wasp” Clip

Marvel Studios has released a new clip from Ant-Man and The Wasp that shows Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) in action against the villain known as Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

In the clip, the Wasp takes on Ghost while Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) watch from a van outside. Once Scott sees that Hope is in trouble, he springs into action. Hank stops him and gives Scott a new Ant-Man suit.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is a creative and self-contained adventure with Lilly’s new heroine stealing the stage. As she said in the post-credits scene of the original Ant-Man film, ‘It’s about damn time.’ With references to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and seeds discretely planted for future films, Ant-Man and The Wasp is tremendous fun, action-packed, and Marvel’s best second movie in a single franchise since Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

What do you think of this Ant-Man and the Wasp clip? Does it have you excited to see the movie? Ant-Man and the Wasp opens in theaters on July 6th.

Evangeline Lilly is not happy about Ant-Man and the Wasp’s late UK release

Ant-Man and the Wasp is coming out in just a few weeks – in the US, at least.

Fans in the UK are used to getting their Marvel Studios movies a day or two earlier than their Stateside friends, but the people at Disney have decided the Brits have to wait an entire month for the size-changing superhero sequel.

Stars Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd aren’t happy about the gap, because impatient fans will end up watching the film illegally in rubbish quality.

“They always do that,” the Wasp actress Lilly told Empire magazine of the late release.

“Then what happens is people just pirate the movie and they see it in the worst way possible, like some shitty version online, instead of going to a theatre.

“They go in the end, but I don’t like that staggering. I’m really going to get to the bottom of this for you. I’m as pissed off about it as you are.”

Rudd added: “I don’t understand. Let me see if we can maybe get the World Cup moved.”

Good luck with that Paul, people reallylove their football, even though people constantly complain about the performance of the players (as if they could do any better).

Ant-Man and the Wasp releases in UK cinemas on August 3, while the US gets it on July 6.

“Ant-Man and The Wasp” Taiwan Premiere

Yesterday, Evangeline and her partner Paul Rudd attended the premiere of “Ant-Man and The Wasp” in Taipei, Taiwan, China. During the event both signed autographs and interacted with the fans for approximately one hour and 20 minutes before making their way to the stage. In addition, they talked about the movie, and Evangeline (The Wasp) talked about her suit, saying:

“I love my super suit. I love my super suit so much that when we were filming, I never took it off. I slept in my suit. I ate in my suit. I bathed in my suit. I only took it off when the filming ended and i still put it on sometimes just for fun.”
